About us
Around 1,100 employees work for the Roads and Transport Authority (SBV) of the federal state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (M-V). We plan, construct and operate the federal and state roads in M-V, including the associated cycleways. A well-built and properly functioning road network forms the basis for transport, the economy and tourism. The daily operations of our 25 roads depots ensure its upkeep. At the same time, we create ecological compensation areas and retain our unique tree-lined country roads in M-V.
The State Office for Roads and Transport Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has its headquarters in Rostock. Being a higher state authority, one of its duties is to coordinate road construction and operation. The roads depots are assigned to the roads offices at Neustrelitz, Schwerin and Stralsund, which are responsible for the performance of these activities. Major state projects, such as the construction of the new bypass at Wolgast, are planned and implemented by the project group in the Schwerin Roads Office. The highest authority is the state's Ministry of Economics, Infrastructure, Tourism and Labour.
In total, the Roads and Traffic Authority is responsible for 1,980 kilometres of federal and 3,330 kilometres of state roads in M-V. This also includes cycleways associated with the roads. In addition, the roads depots repair and maintain 1,250 kilometres of district roads on behalf of individual rural district authorities.
